1982 was the year that Sun Country Airlines came into existence, and they were formed from a pool of talented former Braniff Airlines employees. Braniff could not remain in business, so these die-hard aviation people took it upon themselves to build their own airline. The airline went a long way in their run of nearly twenty years, and in December, 2001, they went out of business due to the events of a few months before. Fortunately, a few visionary investors provided the needed funds to give Sun Country Airlines another chance. That is what this company has demonstrated time and again in the face of harsh economic times.

In the very beginning, Sun Country Airlines was held together by thirty-three employees who were all working multiple jobs within the company. Yet they were all experienced airline people; having been working for Braniff Airlines prior to Sun Country. What is so amazing is the pilots plus the airline stewardesses were willing to help and contribute to success. But they were highly motivated and wanted to succeed, and therefore they did what was necessary to become successful. Much to their credit, they were in profits in less than two months of operation.

In September of 2010, Sun Country Airlines finally announced that their plan for reorganization to exit bankruptcy has been confirmed. In such matters, a judge in the appropriate court must approve a plan such as this. Additionally input will also come from creditors because it is their money that is as stake. As you may know, during these kinds of proceedings the creditors must be repaid in some fashion. These are complex affairs that have to be evaluated, and the end result involves monies being paid plus equity in lieu of cash.

In July of 2010, Sun Country Airlines told the world of their new and successful flights to Hawaii and London from the US mainland originating airports. The Boeing 737 - 800 twin engine airliner was the chosen aircraft. But that is not the first time they embarked on flights crossing the Atlantic on twin engine planes. The first trans-Atlantic crossing for Sun Country was the previous month, in June, when they departed from Minneapolis and landed in London.

Sun Country Airlines has been through a tremendous amount since the early 80s. So from the demise of a major airline, Braniff, we saw the birth of Sun Country. Yes, this airline is a reflection of the human spirit in many ways. Sun Country Airlines has been the recipient of international awards, even though they are considered a smaller regional carrier. So there is every reason to hope that there are brighter skies ahead for Sun Country Airlines.
